A man who tried walking across the Pan-Island Expressway on Sunday, causing a five vehicle pile-up that left a motorcyclist dead. The 28-year-old Singaporean was arrested at the scene and is now out on police bail, a police spokesman said yesterday.Eyewitnesses said the man, whose name is being withheld by police, was apparently intoxicated when he walked across the PIE near Bukit Batok Industrial Park A, just off the Toh Guan exit. The jaywalker managed to walk across the left-most lane without incident - a taxi-driver slammed on his brakes in time to avoid a collision. He was not as lucky crossing the second lane. The driver of a Honda hit the brakes but still clipped him, flinging him about a metre. 'He appeared to have been wandering on the road, moving forwards and backwards as if he was unsure of where to go,' said the driver, who did not want to be named. The man suffered only slight injuries. Mr Alvin Tan, 45, who was driving just behind the Honda, managed to stop his Nissan Sunny just in time to avoid a collision. But the motorcyclist behind him did not stop in time. Security officer Rajoo Subramaniam Naidu, 52, hit the back of Mr Tan's car. His motorcycle then careened to the left and hit the back of a taxi. He was then thrown off the bike and into the path of an oncoming lorry, which struck him and pinned him under its front wheels. *bish bish BISH*
